Fantastique! for Schools

INNOVATIVE DOWNLOADABLE TEACHING RESOURCES

FANTASTIQUE! FOR SCHOOLS will provide free-access, downloadable resources, based on Berlioz’s life and works, for teachers to deliver key elements of the music education curriculum in an engaging and practical way. It is being developed in partnership with the Bristol music education hub, Bristol Plays Music, and is targeted primarily at schoolchildren aged 8–14. It is designed to be usable by teachers with limited specialist music expertise, and to appeal to children from disadvantaged backgrounds and schools with limited music education facilities.

FANTASTIQUE! FOR SCHOOLS will comprise specially–designed lessons and activities using dramatic sections of Berlioz’s famous Symphonie Fantastique to engage and involve children with music. The lessons explore story-telling, listening, the look and sound of the orchestra, instruments, emotion in music, and other aspects of music, and support the National Curriculum programmes of study.

Resources will include teacher packs and all necessary supporting material, including video and audio clips, featuring performance soundtracks from London symphony Orchestra LSO Live recordings. The lessons will be piloted with selected schools before wider release.

OUR VISION: TO INSPIRE YOUNG PEOPLE WITH A LIFELONG LOVE OF MUSIC AND SINGING
